Finally I think my Mom would approve me of this recipe or at least my hacked version of this insanely delicious "Side Dish" from my Mother. I just adore dried prawns,though they are a messy affair when cooked to perfection brings out the taste which is something heavenly.The addition of coconut and the subtle flavor it releases when combined with the prawns and the other spices - is to die for.If you are a coconut and a spices fanatic,you will enjoy the authenticity of this dish. Though adjust the amount of chillies according to your tolerance for heat.Do try it. Trust me its addictive.
Ingredients:
Wash the dried prawns/shrimps in running water and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Marinade with a pinch of salt, keep aside.

- 1 cup of Dried Prawns
- 3/4 to1 Cup of freshly Grated Coconut
- 2 Green Chillies
- 2 to 3 Cloves of Garlic
- 1/2 inch Ginger
- 6 Nos Shallots
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- A few curry leaves
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
- Marble sized tamarind, soaked in about 4 tbsp of water
- Salt to taste
Wash the dried prawns/shrimps in running water and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Marinade with a pinch of salt, keep aside.
Coarsely grind the coconut ,chilies,garlic,ginger,turmeric powder,cumin powder and keep them aside.
In a large wok add 2 to 3 tbsp of coconut oil. Once the oil is hot enough add the mustard seds and let it splutter. Then add the curry leaves . Add the dried shrimp and let it cook with the lid closed. Do not add any water.
Now add the coconut mixture ,tamarind water and salt to taste.Mix well until combined. Now add about 1/4 cup of water and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes or until it is almost dry.
Serve hot with Rice .
