Dried Prawns with Coconut

Finally I think my Mom would approve me of this recipe or at least my hacked version of this insanely delicious "Side Dish" from my Mother. I just adore dried prawns, though they are a messy affair when cooked to perfection brings out the taste which is something heavenly. The addition of coconut and the subtle flavor it releases when combined with the prawns and the other spices - is to die for.If you are a coconut and a spices fanatic, you will enjoy the authenticity of this dish. Though adjust the amount of chillies according to your tolerance for heat.Do try it. Trust me its addictive.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of Dried Prawns
  • 3/4 to1 Cup of freshly Grated Coconut
  • 2 Green Chillies

  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • Marble sized tamarind, soaked in about 4 tbsp of water
  • Salt to taste

Coarsely grind the coconut ,chilies, garlic, ginger, turmeric powder, cumin powder and keep them aside.

In a large wok add 2 to 3  tbsp of coconut oil. Once the oil is hot enough  add the mustard seds and let it splutter. Then add the curry leaves . Add the dried shrimp and let it cook with the lid closed. Do not add any water.
